30 Jahre Mauerfall
Mein ältester Sohn Paul wurde am 20.01.1989, im Jahr des Mauerfalls geboren. Ich fand es lustig, wenn er mich 6 Jahre später in Weißensee fragte: „Stimmt ´s Papa, das war früher hier mal alles Westen?“ Es ist nicht wichtig, für junge Menschen zu wissen, wo entlang die Mauer verlief. Wichtig zu wissen ist, was sie bedeutete. Deshalb sollen meine Arbeiten, 30 Jahre nach dem Mauerfall, auch für die Jugend von heute sein.
Ich habe die Hälfte meines Lebens in der DDR verbracht und ich weiß, was Angst, Ohnmacht vor Gewalt und Repressalien bedeuten und die Angst, hinter der Mauer hinter noch dickeren Mauern zu verschwinden, so wie es einigen meiner Freunde in der politischen Haft geschah. Ich weiß auch, was es bedeutet, die Angst vor äußerer und innerer Gewalt einer Diktatur zu überwinden. Ich habe jahrelang für ostdeutsche Schriftsteller, die vom offiziellen Kulturbetrieb ausgeschlossen wurden, illegale Künstlerbücher unter dem Pseudonym „bazillus“ gedruckt.
Langjährige, enge Freundschaften, Kraft, Stolz und Zuversicht sind entstanden aus dem Mut und dem Willen, es trotz der Angst zu schaffen, gemeinsam Mauern zu überwinden. Ich bin so dankbar dafür, dass meine vier Kinder in Freiheit aufwachsen konnten. Mein Leben hätte sich total geändert, wenn die Mauer nicht gefallen wäre. Ich sollte am 18.11.1989 aus dem Verband Bildender Künstler ausgeschlossen werden, weil ich es gewagt hatte, als Grafikdrucker meine eigenen Zeichnungen nach Westberlin zu schmuggeln und sie dort im September 1989 im Restaurant „Lusiada“ auszustellen. Hätte sich die Grenze nicht geöffnet, hätte ich meine Lebensbasis verloren und niemals als Künstler arbeiten können.
Ich habe 10 Jahre in Portugal gelebt und Ausstellungen in vielen Ländern gehabt und bin überall herzlich empfangen worden und habe wunderbare Menschen kennen gelernt. Als ich noch davon träumte, Sprungfedern unter den Füßen zu haben, um über die Mauer springen zu können, hatte ich nicht im Entferntesten eine Idee davon, wie sich mein Künstlerdasein in relativ kurzer Zeit nach dem Fall der Mauer entwickeln würde. Aufgrund dieser Erfahrung bedrückt es mich, macht es mich traurig und zornig, dass meine Brüder und Schwestern in vielen Ländern noch heute zwischen Mauern und Stacheldraht leben müssen. Ich möchte ihnen in meinen Büchern und Bildern eine Stimme geben, um meine Anteilnahme und Solidarität zu demonstrieren.

Übermalungen
Bei meinen Übermalungen (Überzeichnungen) handelt es sich um die Kombination einer in Siebdrucktechnik gedruckten Fläche und einer Zeichnung. Auf der fertigen, endgültigen Fläche, der ursprünglich eine andere Bestimmung zugedacht war, entsteht spontan die Zeichnung. Aus dem reizvollen Gegensatz von Drucktechnik und Handzeichnung, von Fläche und Linie entsteht eine neue Einheit. Diese im eigentlichen Sinne "Überzeichnungen" ergeben sich aus der Addition einzelner Linien, die bewußt gesetzt, eingearbeitet, verwoben werden. Eine Korrektur ist dabei nicht möglich.
